Sister Smith Nurse, Writer & Mum

Life is messy

Why I’m Starting This Blog

I’ve always believed that reflection is one of the most powerful tools we have, both in nursing and in life. Writing has always been my way of making sense of things, of capturing the moments that matter and the lessons that stick. That’s why I’ve decided to start this blog: a space to document my writing journey, share the ideas that inspire me, and keep myself accountable to the goals I’ve set.

My work as a nurse and educator brings me into contact with so many stories  of resilience, compassion, struggle, and strength. These experiences are shaping the books I write and the projects I take on. Sometimes it’s the history of nursing that inspires me; sometimes it’s a moment on the ward, a colleague’s kindness, or even the challenges we face when things aren’t easy. All of it feeds into the words I put down on the page.

This blog is partly for me, a place to pause, reflect, and track my own progress. But I also hope it will be for you, too. If you’re a nurse, a student, a writer, or simply someone curious about the journey, maybe you’ll find something here that resonates.

So here’s to beginnings, to honesty, and to staying true to the flame that keeps us going. Writing is a journey, and I’m glad to finally start sharing mine..
